The way to West Park
Six new brown tourist signs have been put up around Long Eaton showing the way to the town’s Green Flag-winning West Park, the largest park in Erewash.
Erewash Borough Council has installed the signs at main junctions following a recommendation by Green Flag judges because of the size of the park and the number of visitors it attracts.
West Park was recently given the prestigious Green Flag Award for the second year running, an award that means it is one of the best in the country.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, says:
“We are very proud of West Park and the substantial investments we have made to provide all the attractions within it. It is extremely popular and the signs will now make it easier for visitors to find and enjoy all the many family facilities the park has to offer.”
West Park covers 127 acres and dates back to the early 1900s. It has an extensive range of sports and recreational facilities including field sports, tennis, an outdoor gym, skatepark, splashpad, bowls and a café and is enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year. A range of improvements have been made to the park over the last five years including new signage within it, improved play facilities and a significant tree planting programme.
