Handy reference guides point to the benefits of town centre shopping
REGENERATION agency Erewash Partnership is distributing 30,000 handy size guides to promote the benefits of shopping in Long Eaton.
The guide to the town centre is the first new issue for six years, reflecting new developments and changes to the street scene.
The guide encourages people to shop locally. Packed full of useful information, including what to see and do, it will also be a handy reference tool for visitors from further afield who are sampling what the town, one of the biggest in Derbyshire, has to offer.
The guide lists hundreds of businesses in the town centre. It features post codes of car parks so that drivers will be able to use satellite navigation systems to find their way around.
Another new feature shows bus routes, in conjunction with operator trentbarton buses.
It also promotes the work of the Partnership and its new town centre website.
The guide has been produced on a not-for-profit basis. Funding was raised from businesses through sponsorship and advertising.
Market towns co-ordinator Paul Calladine said: “This map, like its Ilkeston equivalent, shows the wide variety of shopping outlets in the town – everything from well-established independent outlets, specialist shops and national chains, to the popular market.
“We have had good support from advertisers and sponsors wanting to put their logos on the map. We are grateful for their backing and hope that all the businesses will benefit from increased use by shoppers.”
Councillor Geoff Smith, borough council lead member for regeneration and planning, said: “There have been some considerable changes on the shopping scene in Long Eaton since the last map was produced six years ago so this new one will be very useful to local shoppers and visitors.”
The maps will be distributed to homes, and can also be picked up at, shops, libraries and places of interest. They are also being sent to nearby Chetwynd Barracks at Chilwell for use by the troops who pass through there.
It is also available from Long Eaton town hall and can be downloaded from the town centre website www.longeaton.biz
